Acoustic Bass

My acoustic bass is built with an 1/2" arch in the top and back. A floating bridge and tail-piece compliment its unique design. As in an archtop guitar or a cello, the arching adds a lot to the stiffness and strength of the top. The mass and energy of the bass strings, as well as their low frequency, requires a very different design from that of a guitar. A long scale gives maximum tension to the strings and adds to sustain and clarity. The result is a bass that has a solid and punchy tone even on the lowest notes and one that works well without amplification as a true acoustic instrument.

The bass is also available as a 5 or 6 string instrument, with a freted or fretless finger board, and with a regular or cutaway body. Pick-ups are optional. Under the saddle pick-ups like the 'Baggs' work well. Magnetic pick-ups built into the end of the fingerboard, or a combination magnetic/pizeo pickup with on-board pre-amp can also be installed.

Oskar: I'm the proud owner of one of your acoustic bass guitars. I bought it through the Ottawa Folklore Center, having lusted after it since they brought it in as a new instrument.

I am very pleased with it. It is the only acoustic bass I've ever played that I could consider using acoustically, rather than plugged in. Much easier to carry than my upright bass too. It's a terrific addition to my arsenal of acoustic and low frequency instruments.
